I’m an Equine Vet and Equine Dental Technician working in Cheshire, Greater Manchester and surrounding counties.
I’ve been living and working as an Equine Vet and Equine Dental Technician in Cheshire for over 25 years, and I am so excited to be finally opening my own Equine Dentistry practice in January 2025. My goal is to provide the horses under my care with highest standards of equine dentistry, provide an exceptional client service, all at affordable prices.
I qualified from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 1995 and I’ve been working in equine practice ever since. I’ve been a veterinary assistant, run a large multi site vet practice and a large equine clinic, worked in the corporate sector and now I’m keen to focus on providing high quality dental care, great client service at affordable prices.
I have a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Equine Practice, a Post Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Business Management, and I’m a RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice. I am a current member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians.
I also spent a couple of days a week working for the British Horseracing Authority, looking after the welfare of horses at racecourses throughout the North West.
Mark: Equine Vet
I have been an equine vet for nearly 30 years now! I have run a really busy equine clinic, and managed a dental first opinion and referral caseload. I have worked in all aspects of equine dentistry - from routine dental care to more complex restorations and extractions.
Mark: Equine Dental Technician
I have always been very enthusiastic about promoting high quality dental care as a vet, and I felt that becoming dual qualified as an EDT cemented my passion. I took the exams and joined the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians, and I’m proud to continue to be a member of this organisation.
Good dental care is all part of looking after your horse. Every horse, pony and donkey should have their teeth checked at regular intervals. The frequency of this depends on the individual from 3 months in horses with ongoing gum disease to yearly in other horses with no current issues.
Modern equine dentistry requires a whole range of specialised tools and techniques. We start with a brief examination of the horse’s head, and a more detailed look at the incisor teeth. Then the mouth to be flushed and a full mouth gag to be placed. We can then look inside the mouth with an ultra-bright head torch, and give you a full assessment of your horse’s oral health. After this we should agree a treatment plan - anything from a routine rasp of sharp enamel points, treatment of gum disease or a discussion of further work that may be required. I bring a wide range of modern dental kit with me from power tools to motorised dental flushers, ready to help your horse with a wide range of dental issues.
After your appointment you will be given a dental chart - this is your record of all the findings and treatment plan associated with your horses’s dental treatment. I keep a digital copy of these, and email you one as well, so we can both refer back to it on your next appoitment.
I strongly believe that this job is about looking after people as much as their horses. So, I treat the appointment as an opportunity to show you what’s going on inside your horse’s mouth and involve you in the decision making process.
All routine rasping includes an a discussion with you about the best treatment plan, a routine rasp and an electronic dental chart emailed to you afterwards. The visit fee is included in the pricing.

No - not every horse requires sedation, and some horses are really good and don’t seem to find the experience stressful. However, sedation is cheap and safe and does allow a thorough examination and a relaxing experience for you and your horse. In most cases, horses are around from their sedation within 30 minutes or so. In the majority of cases, I will recommend sedation.
Yes absolutely. I work with all types of equines and I’m very familiar with donkeys and mules as well.
My aim is to provide you and your horse with the best possible dental experience. There are many procedures that can be performed on yard, this includes routine care, wolf tooth extractions, diastema treatment and some incisor and molar extractions. However, some procedures are best referred. We should discuss this on a case by case basis, and I can give you an assessment of what I believe to be in the best interests of your horse.
I want my equine dental business to be focused around you and your horse, so please get in touch using the contact form or phone for an appointment.
